A permanent exhibition showing photographs of the aftermath of the earthquake, along with damaged items and historical documents. Its twin themes are “How to express the Great East Japan Earthquake” and “How to make the most of the earthquake’s legacy for the future of the region”.

This visitor center introduces the natural history of the Karakuwa Peninsula as well as the lives and culture of local people. There is a photographic exhibition showing the current status of the fishing port and shopping center following damage caused by the earthquake. The beautiful plant life that can be seen in the region in different seasons is also depicted.

　津波で４階まで被災した気仙沼向洋高校旧校舎を「震災遺構」として保存し、展示や研修会場を備える「震災伝承館」と併せて公開しています。

The former Kesennuma Koyo High School building has been preserved as a reminder of the disaster. The tsunami reached the fourth floor of the school building and caused massive damage. Visitors can view the damaged school building and the Earthquake Memorial Museum, which is used for exhibitions and training.
